The meaning of art depends on how a person understands the work. This subject may be broad; however, it is not difficult to understand since it has been part of everyone’s social lives. From the clothes people wear to activities in school, there is always an artistic value included. This clearly shows that it is everywhere, and its presence cannot be ignored.
Moreover, it has various forms wherein the artist himself has the right to choose his subject, explore his technique and convey his thoughts through his chosen form. Basically, a person can find inspiration in everything he encounters. It can be from a dream or from his imagination that shows a significant meaning.
Most of the subjects depicted include the physical environment that involves landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes because of the captivating scenery it produces. Second is still life. These include inanimate objects such as a set of fruits arranged in a basket and placed near a window. Third are animals which are very common since the prehistoric period wherein illustrations were found in cave walls and ceilings.
In addition, the fourth common subject is people. Everyone is intrigued by the human body and the face which are common subjects in sculpting. Fifth is history and legend. True or not, the artists are able to convey their understanding and belief through their creation. Lastly, religion and mythology are also common because the artists are inspired by their devotion giving them enough inspiration to express it on their works.
Appreciation and Investment
People have different taste just like artists with
their choice of subject and form. This also applies in art which is classified into categories one of which is fine art.
This is a study and creation of visual arts that involves drawing, painting,
printmaking and sculpting. As time passed by, other forms started to evolve. At
present, other fine art includes animation, architecture, calligraphy,
caricatures, dance, film and photography. This practice is often regarded for
the aesthetic value and beauty more than the functional value.
Moreover, the turn of the century paved way for the birth of modern art. This type manifested itself as a crisis of subject wherein artists begun to question the relevance of mythical figures to real people. This led to the birth of different styles such as expressionism, dadaism, surrealism, social realism, impressionism, fauvism, pointillism, cubism and futurism. The styles are the result of the intellectual and emotional crises wherein the artists responded intensely.
Indeed, the social factors brought by a certain period influenced the evolution of art. In fact, the artists nowadays as well as novices are becoming more experimental with the materials and subjects, they use. In addition, they are also investing more time and effort to succeed in their chosen forms.
Moreover, there is also an increase in the number of regular people who show appreciation. They do not only engage in such activities, but also purchase fascinating original art. Take note, buying original masterpieces is considered a good investment only if a person believes in the artist and his works. Indeed, art is everywhere and everyone has the right to appreciate all its forms.
